Michael Schur was inspired to create "A Man On The Inside" after watching the Chilean documentary "The Mole Agent"
Narrative
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. He says, "The Mole Agent" is a powerful documentary because it makes people feel incredibly similar regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reduced way as, “I have to call my mom.”" We tried to do a similar thing with our show with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call mom?.
Remake of The Mole Agent (2020)
Thoughtful, honest, with sophisticated and introspective writing that introduces humor combined with awe for humanity and supports the mysteries and truths buried at the center of every human soul. Think "Cheers," but set in an assisted living community, The Man Inside weaves together a complex potpourri of characters and stories that reflect real life in much the same way a small, obscure fictional bar set in the middle of big city Boston did in the 1980s and early 1990s . . . .
Definitely worth a watch
And with Ted Danson as one of the central characters, a certain nostalgia for that era tugs at the heartstrings.
