After a traumatic incident during his internship, young medical student James Hayman (Namir Smallwood) transfers to a rural hospital for a fresh start. Noticing that James is struggling and having difficulty connecting with his patients, Dr. Harrison (veteran actor and film veteran Michael Potts) suggests a course focused on improving her bedside manner and facilitating deeper relationships with her patients. Demons from James’ past begin to catch up with him when he is consumed by the case of a young asthmatic (Sidney Flanigan, NEVER SOMETIMES ALWAYS) with mysterious symptoms. His grip on reality begins to slip as his disturbing nightmares, anxiety-fueled speculations, and physical injuries collide with the harsh realities of the medical world. Director Alex Thompson assembles a strong ensemble of veteran character actors in this follow-up to SAINT FRANCES — and prequel to THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT — in this humanistic, unconventional take on the genre.
